My opinions on all of the Joestar's mariages.

Preface

Here I will talk about my general opinions on the mariages of the main Joestars. The only reason I will be excluding Lisa Lisa's mariage to George Joestar the second is because they don't have any scenes together, so I can't really form opinions on them.

Jonathan and Erina

Jonathan and ErinaYou’ve heard of saving the best for last? Now get ready for giving you the best right away! I love these two with all of my heart, and there’s nothing you can do about it. They are just the cutest, and I don’t know how to get them out of my mind. They’re obviously incredibly happy with each other, which makes the last episode of Phantom Blood all the sadder. They are both so absolutely adorable with each other, and I can’t think of a cuter couple in the entire series.

Their path to romance was sweet and somewhat straightforward, first meeting as children, when JoJo stood up for her. They later became friends after Erina gave JoJo grapes as thanks for that first meeting. They were separated for most of their teenage years, before JoJo ended up in the hospital where Erina worked, rekindling their old romance. They get married at the end of the part, and go on a honeymoon to America. Unfortunately this is where Jonathan dies, leaving Erina to raise their son by herself. Despite this, she never remarried. I'll be honest, this is the only cannon ship that I actually like.

Joseph and Suzi Q

Joseph and Suzi Q These two… they seem to like each other well enough, but I don’t really think they’re the best for each other. This can be noted by the fact that Suzi Q didn’t send the telegram indicating that Joseph was still alive, their overall lack of communication in part 3, and the fact that Joseph cheated on her. Overall I think they’re fineeeee together, but I don’t think it’s the best.

They met while Joseph was training on his hamon with Lisa Lisa, Suzi Q being Lisa Lisa’s assistant. They seemed to have little chemistry, as Joseph flirted with her, but he also tried to peep on Lisa Lisa in the bath moments later, so I feel like it’s just a Joseph thing. They end up getting married after the final battle between Joseph and Kars, while Joseph is presumed dead. During this time she nurses him back to health, but doesn’t send the telegram to the rest of Joseph’s loved ones informing them that he was still alive. They anger each other somewhat frequently, but they stay together through just about everything.

Holly and Sadao Kujo

Holly KujoThere isn't a lot to say here, but I still have opinions. Those opinions are that Sadao is a prick, and Holly shoud divorce him. they have zero scenes together, because for the entirety of Stardust Crusaders, while Holly is deathly ill, Sadao is away on vacation. I hate him with all of my stupid little heart and I wish that he had actually been a good father. There isn't really more to say.

Jotaro and his Unnamed Ex-Wife

Jotaro and his Wife… no. nope not at all. Bad relationship, zero chemistry. These two do not like each other. I think this may be less of an issue with compatibility, and more an issue with Jotaro’s mental state. He doesn’t understand what a healthy relationship looks like, he doesn’t know how to properly reciprocate, show, or experience emotions. He got married to a woman because it was what he was Supposed To Do™ and not because he felt any actual love for her. I feel bad for his wife more than anything. She deserved better.

We can only speculate on the circumstances that led to their marriage, but based on the timeline of events, (mainly the year that Jolyne was born) I assume they met in college. It is unclear to me why Jotaro would marry a woman, and it is especially confusing for me that he would have a daughter with her. But whatever. I do think it was for the best that they divorced. (full opinions on Jotaro, which will expand on points made here, coming soon-ish I have OPINIONS on him)

Johnny and Rina

Johnny and RinaThese two don’t really have a lot of screen (page?) time together, but from what I can see they like each other well enough. Johnny loved Rina Higashikata enough to save her from the rock disease through extreme measures, but we don’t actually get his perspective on his feelings towards her, only experiencing their story through a flashback.

They purportedly met on a passenger boat and fell in love then, proceeding to live a happy life until Rina fell ill, but the exact details are lost. They do clearly seem to love each other though, in the flashback we see him worried about her, and we see her cry over him after he died. I would qualify this relationship as miles better than Jotaro’s, and, lacking any evidence to the contrary, I'm going to say they’re better than Joseph and Suzi Q’s.

Dfinitive Ranking

  1. Jonathan Joestar and Erina Pendleton
  2. Johnny Joestar and Rina Higashikata
  3. Joseph Joestar and Suzi Q
  4. Jotaro Kujo and Ex-Wife

I just noticed that out of all the Joestars that are actually married are actually Joestars, the only one who isn't is Jotaro, who got divorced anyway, lmao.
